NetcomVSAT (CIR) FAQS
What is Committed Information Rate (CIR)?
CIR is defined as the guaranteed amount (dedicated) of bandwidth your site will be allocated.

What is Maximum Information Rate (MIR)?
MIR is defined as the maximum amount of bandwidth your site will be able to achieve when there is no congestion on the network. MIR may not always be achievable 24 hours a day.

What was Netcom’s initial Committed Information Rate?
The initial committed Information rate was 1: 8.

How does the Netcom Committed Information Rate work?

The bandwidth between the CIR and MIR (Maximum) will be served on a best efforts basis. For example, if you are consistently able to utilize your CIR, then the service is deemed to be delivered.

What is the new Committed Information Rate?

Netcom has increased its Committed Information Rate (CIR) from 12.5% (1/8th) of the MIR to 25% (1/4th) of the MIR.

How will it affect my service?

We will be expanding the CIR to be one quarter (1:4) of the MIR for your remotes. This means that your 256/128, previously with a 32/16Kbps CIR is now 64/32Kbps CIR, a TWO fold increase in the dedicated bandwidth component.
Will I have to pay for the new Committed Information Rate?
No, it is at no additional cost to you.

Why has Netcom increased its Committed Information Rate?

We have done this in order to continue to provide consistent quality service to our customers and because you are the main reason why we remain in business.

What does dedicated bandwidth mean?
Dedicated bandwidth means that the bandwidth speed that you subscribed for is committed for your exclusive use. You are guaranteed that the Bandwidth (or speed) that you signed up can always be achieved 24 hours a day regardless of total network utilization at any given time. That means if you signed up for dedicated bandwidth of 512/512kbps, you will always be able to receive downloads up to 512kbps if your network requires it.

What does shared bandwidth mean?

Shared bandwidth means that the bandwidth speed that you signed up for is used collectively between yourself and other users on that service plan. Although you will always be able to achieve the CIR, speeds above your CIR will only be able to be delivered when other users in your service plan are not active. This has great advantages of having the ability to have higher speeds during non peak times and when the network is underutilized, without having to purchase dedicated bandwidth.

I frequently need more than the CIR that I am allocated, what can I do?

You have many options, which our sales people can be happy to assist you with.

How do I know how much bandwidth I am using?

Please email support@netcomng.com with the interval that you would like your data. We will be able to provide this for you.
